On Sunday 4 January 2026, the Olympic Flame (Fiamma Olimpica) of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games will traverse the Italian region of Le Marche, marking one of the most inspiring chapters of Il Viaggio della Fiamma Olimpica (the Great Journey of the Olympic Flame). This ceremonial relay celebrates Olympic values of unity, sport, and community while showcasing the cultural richness of Italy’s central Adriatic region.

The journey of the Olympic flame in Italy for Milano Cortina 2026
The journey of the Olympic Flame in Italy

The Olympic Torch Relay began in Ancient Olympia on 26 November 2025 and has been making its way across Italy since early December. Over the course of its journey, the Flame will travel approximately 12,000 kilometres, crossing all 20 Italian regions and 110 provinces, carried by 10,001 torchbearers, before arriving at the Opening Ceremony at San Siro Stadium in Milan on 6 February 2026. Along the way, the Relay is designed to include a series of exceptional moments that highlight Italy’s geographic and cultural diversity, from the high-altitude ascent to Punta Gnifetti on Monte Rosa (4,554 metres), to a passage by the Marmore Falls, the torchlit stretch along the Amalfi Coast, and a symbolic crossing of Venice via the Grand Canal.

Program Breakdown in Le Marche

In Le Marche, the Olympic Torch Relay follows a structured route across the region, combining running segments with scheduled transfer sections. As in other parts of Italy, a support vehicle (the so-called spider) is used for longer distances and logistical transitions, allowing the relay to move efficiently between inland towns and coastal cities across the provinces.
