The Cammino della Sirena Mitì is a coastal route in Le Marche that runs for just under 80 km along the Adriatic, starting in San Benedetto del Tronto and finishing in Sirolo. The path follows the shoreline almost continuously, moving through long beach promenades, seaside towns, and quieter coastal stretches, before reaching the more rugged scenery of the Riviera del Conero in the final part. It’s designed as a straightforward, flexible walk: stages are short, terrain is mostly flat, and the frequent towns along the way make it easy to adapt the itinerary without complex planning. As part of the broader network of cammini d’Italia, it fits perfectly within a slow travel approach, offering an accessible coastal experience focused on landscape, rhythm, and ease rather than difficulty.

The Legend of the Sirena Mitì
The Cammino della Sirena Mitì is inspired by the legend of Mitì, a young woman of extraordinary beauty who lived in a small fishing village along the Adriatic coast. Daughter of the sea and the wind, she spent her days looking towards the horizon, singing a mysterious melody while waiting for a dream to come true. One night, she had seen a boat arriving from the distance, guided by a young man who asked her to leave with him. From that moment on, she believed in that promise and returned to the shore every day, waiting.
One evening, the boat finally appeared. The young man stepped ashore, but instead of choosing Mitì, he revealed he had come for another woman, Azzurrina. As the boat departed, taking her lost love away, Mitì entered the sea and followed it, singing her song, now filled with sorrow. She swam until nightfall, until the boat disappeared on the horizon and she was never seen again. According to the legend, Mitì became a siren, and her voice can still be heard along the coast on windy evenings, a haunting call that echoes across the Adriatic.

When to Go
The best time to walk the Cammino della Sirena Mitì is from spring to early summer (April to June) and early autumn (September to October), when temperatures are mild and the coastline is less crowded. In summer, the route remains feasible thanks to its flat terrain and constant proximity to the sea, but the biting sun and high temperatures can make long stretches exposed and physically demanding, especially in July and August. If walking in peak season, it’s best to start early in the morning and carry enough water.
